rims

Prices in Japan seem so unfair take for example these rims that only took a few seconds to find ~_~:

SSR Vienna Kreis in 18x9+et8 18x10+et10 114.3x4/5 for only 20.000Yen

Or these Veilside Andrew 18x10et+22 18x12et-10114.3x4/5 at only 99.800Yen

Having imported quite a few sets of rims from Japan myself the reason for me calling these prices unfair is because I'm Jealous. Before I have a set arrived in the Netherlands with added taxes and shippingcosts the initial purchase price has in some cases doubled. But the grass always seems greener on the other side, right? Well, in this case... in a way it does only seem that way, I once had the privilege being driven over the wangan in Tokyo in a highly modified 600ps bcnr33 gt-r v-spec. An immaculate dark blue example with white centered/polished lip 18" nice offset Work Meister sp1's (sticking to my obsession with rims). During our talk I asked the guy driving the car if he received a lot of attention with it and amongst other things he told me no, it was nothing special in Japan.

In all fairness, if you're building a car to use on the streets you can't deny you also like your car to stand out from the rest, in speed, style or whatever... I know I do to some extend. Scarcity and high prices for cool import parts help in that respect, being individual. It's a lot easier for me in the Netherlands than for the guy in Japan, maybe I should consider myself lucky (although being close to the UK doesn't really help, but that's a different story), or am I just trying to find excuses to justify spending too much on my car.
